Post Surgery Care

Post surgery care at home,
a safe path to recovery

The first days after an operation are when complications are most likely and readmission most common. Post surgery care at home puts a Registered Nurse beside you through that window — managing your wound, your medications and your recovery until you are safely back on your feet.

Post surgery care that bridges hospital and home

Whether you are home after orthopaedic surgery, abdominal surgery, a caesarean or a day procedure, we bridge the gap between hospital discharge and full recovery — the point where formal care usually stops but you still need support.

We coordinate with your surgeon and GP, so the instructions from the ward actually get followed at home rather than lost in a discharge letter.

What we provide
Wound and incision care

Expert dressing changes, drain management and infection monitoring for your surgical site.

Pain and medication management

Setting up and supervising your pain relief and other medicines safely, and watching for side effects.

Mobility and recovery support

Helping you move safely, prevent blood clots and pressure areas, and rebuild strength and confidence.

Red-flag monitoring

Knowing the specific warning signs for your procedure and escalating quickly if something is not right.

What to expect

What recovery with us looks like

A clear plan from the day you come home:

1
Discharge handover
We review your discharge summary and surgeon's instructions so your home care matches the plan exactly.
2
First visit within a day
A nurse visits soon after you are home to check your wound, medications and pain, and set the recovery plan in motion.
3
Scheduled recovery visits
Regular visits track healing, manage pain and support mobility, adjusting as you improve.
4
Step-down and discharge
As you recover we taper support and hand back to your GP, with everything documented.
Why Paterson's

Recovery, watched by someone clinical

Recovery is safest when someone clinical is watching the details. Our nurses know the post-operative warning signs — bleeding, infection, clots, uncontrolled pain — and act on them early. Led by a Registered Nurse with more than 20 years of hospital experience, the standard behind your recovery is current acute-care practice, delivered in your living room.

Frequently asked questions
How quickly can you start after my operation?
Usually within a day of discharge. Arranging care before your surgery date means a nurse is ready the moment you get home.
Do you handle drains and complex dressings?
Yes. Drain management, complex and negative-pressure dressings and staged wound care are all part of post-surgical nursing.
Can you manage my pain medication?
We set up, administer and supervise pain relief safely, monitor for side effects and coordinate with your prescriber and pharmacist.
What if something goes wrong overnight?
We plan for it. You will know the specific warning signs for your procedure, and we coordinate escalation to your GP, surgeon or emergency care as needed.
Which surgeries do you support recovery for?
Orthopaedic, abdominal, gynaecological, cardiac, plastic and day-procedure recovery, among others. Tell us the procedure and we tailor the plan.
